Testudines
Tortoises, terrapins and turtles are instantly recognisable animals. Scaly, slow and nigh-indestructible, tortoises and turtles are just as recognisable on Different World as they are on Home Earth. However, like most shared orders, families, etcetera, they are often more diverse and more bizarre. As anapsids, they are classified as 'reptiles' who are less closely related to other reptiles than 'birds' are, testudines have always been a classification nightmare. Normally, they are lumped with reptiles due to sharing similar features, such as scaly skin, laying eggs, and being ectothermic.
